Hello again. Today, we continue the journey toward your fabulous best self with some practical tips. Last week I talked about giving yourself some homework when planning your dreams to come true, e.g. break them down into small steps and treat them like homework assignments. By incorporating little actions into your daily routine and scheduling them religiously, you can progress toward your dream easier, especially if you schedule the task at the best time to suit you: morning glory or evening grace.

WHAT YOU NEED AND WHAT YOU WANT

I want to expand on this concept and go a step forward: combine what you need and what you want to make it stick. What do I mean by that? Think about your most significant achievements; you usually remember and rejoice at the result (the big promotion, the wedding, whatever ...). This is because the results contributed to and enhanced your self-image, the image of yourself as the hero of your story who is successful. But, on the other hand, what you did to get there probably made you miserable, right? That is because what makes you happy daily (like watching TV instead of working or scoffing down the last piece of chocolate feels much better than dieting) is not congruent with your "hero" self-image. At least not yet. I have talked before about building habits that will support you toward your Best Self and your Best Life, even in turbulent times. But to create habits, it takes dedication, repetition and discipline. So, how can you stay motivated and keep going through the daily hard stuff until you reach your goal? Well, mix pleasure with hard work. I mean, literally mix, not doing the pleasure activity afterwards as a reward. Mix it up. For example, if you have decided you want to exercise every day but you'd rather watch your favourite television series, exercise in front of the TV. Create an instant reward for what you are doing. It also serves to distract you. Or light a candle while working to gain some pleasure from a mundane activity. You get the gist. Mixing what you need with what you want can be another mechanism in your magic success toolbox.
