Think outside the box? What box? The one we keep ourselves in. I've always hated this expression - it implies that there is an actual way of being, doing things which is the right way. And that somehow we are different by "thinking outside of it". But it actually goes deeper. There is a box and it doesn't just affect our way of thinking. It affects our life, our achievements (or failures), our relationships and so on. Self-image is our own portable box. Our world and everything in it (career, body, relationships) reflect our mental attitude toward ourselves. Self-acceptance is good. Self-appreciation (valuing yourself and accepting who you are right here and right now) is even better. But there is always something there that stops us from achieving our full potential and reach new heights. Forget about the corporate glass ceiling, we have our own. Our Self-image.THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX: WHAT BOX?
What I am talking about here is the subconscious image. The opinion we have of ourselves, our blueprint which forms the roadmap of where we are going (or not) in life.
Self-image is the product of past experiences, failures and successes, humiliations. It's the sum of the way we have been spoken to, especially in our formative years, by our parents, our teachers. The phrases we heard over and over and over until they became ingrained. And they become the box that "boxes" us in.
And we can never outperform our Self-image. It holds us hostage to our current results. And that s***s. Mind, you might like your current results and be perfectly happy with the standards you have (for yourself and your results) in every area of your life. If that is so, please do share so we can all learn from you. But, if not happy with an area or two of your life, or you are doing ok but can't understand why you keep holding yourself back, then hang around as this month I'd like to go a bit deeper on the issue of Self-image and learn together how to get a new one. One that serves us.I hope to see you tomorrow so we can start to #SmashThatCeiling x
