How can you move from self-critical to self-acceptance? Any woman out there understands when I say that, no matter how pretty people say you are, there is no more agony life feeling ugly. Or looking at an unflattering photo of yourself. Thinking you should look thinner, younger or whatever. No woman avoids experiencing this feeling at some point in her life. Studies by the Office of Women's Health says that "Women with a positive body image are more likely to have good physical and mental health. Girls and women with negative thoughts and feelings about their bodies are more likely to develop certain mental health conditions. Such as eating disorders and depression. Researchers think that dissatisfaction with their bodies may be part of the reason more women than men have depression". Female anxiety and body image are linked. To the extent that women some times choose not to do important life activities when they don't feel good about how they look. I know this too well as it has happened to me too. People who know me would describe me a super confident. And for the majority of the time, I am. But sometimes, I have had days when I didn't feel that good about myself. How I looked. So I cancelled invites at the last minutes as I genuinely couldn't find anything that I could wear and feel good about leaving the house. Raise your hand if you have done the same. You can't stop caring, not really. And you can't remove yourself from life either (or from Instagram, Twitter, name any of the social media outlets). To start with, commitment to yourself and self-discipline/self-love is necessary.
Practice self-love daily
Then, you can "curate" your life and remove people that do no make you feel good about yourself. You can also only follow and engage with people who spread positivity, inclusivity and acceptance.
Finally, you can look at anything and everything that makes you feel excited about being a woman.
This is a new way of being that can help re-write your life in a more positive light with enough time. Moving from self-critical to self-acceptance, the key and doorway to your authentic power.
