Ok, we started with telling your story, then acting your story and now is the turn to see your story. Both mentally and physically. See your new body/health, prosperous life, fantastic career and family life and your lover. This is the fun part.SEE YOUR STORY
After talking about step one to create your new Self-image - telling the new story - and step two - acting your new story - it is now time for step three: seeing your new story.
This practice is twofold:- visualisation
- creating a vision board.
Visualisation can be incorporated into your morning and evening routines and performed straight after reading your story. Your read it first. Then close your eyes and imagine yourself in your new story. Visualise yourself in the story, living the life you describe. Some people visualise in the first person. Some people visualise by seeing themselves as a character in the story. Do what works for you. This is a very known and used tactic by athletes. They practice mentally and see themselves winning the race, the fight, the game and see the result of lifting the trophy. When we visualise an experience, it activates the Reticular Activating System in the brain. This part of the brain does not know the difference between real or imagined experiences. And when you do, the brain produces neurons as if you ARE living the experiences. This is a potent tool. Use it to your advantage.“Mental picture offers us an opportunity to practice new traits and attitudes, which otherwise we could not do.
This is possible again because your nervous system cannot tell the difference between an actual experience and one that is vividly imagined" - Maxwell Maltz
THE POWER OF IMAGES
Besides visualising, you can also make a vision board. Remember the new story you wrote. Look for pictures and words that depict that new story, the results. Make a collage. Stick the pictures where you can see them—all the time. Surround yourself with them. I have my vision board as a screensaver on my Mac, IPad, and iPhone (yes, I'm an Apple girl). And I have the full vision board in my home office and a frame in my bedroom. I see it when I wake up, when I go to bed, whilst working. You have seen examples of how a "vision board" is in action when you bought, for example, a new bag, a new car and, all of a sudden, you start noticing the same bag/car EVERYWHERE. Your brain is simply recognising what it now knows. Ditto. Now one small suggestion. In your vision board, if you want, for example, a new body and find an example of how you'd like to look, by all means, use those pictures but put your face in the picture (the are many free apps that allow you to do this). It doesn't have to be perfect. But it will show YOU in your new story. Successful. And slowly, your brain will catch up. Recap so far:- tell your story - read it out loud morning and evening with emotion
- see your story - visualise yourself in the story as or just after you read it
- surround yourself with images of your new story
- act your story.
