Resilience: The self-care side
Hello ladies and welcome back. To dive right in, I want to touch on self-care and its importance. When last have you had a massage? Pampered? Spoilt with a gift, flowers, chocolates? And, let me tell you this, you do not need a lover to provide this for you, you are capable of providing this for yourself. The biggest problem that we face when it comes to us being cared for is our wrongful perception that someone else must do this for us. This is entirely false – we can, and we will do this for ourselves. I am not saying that you should turn down gifts, pampering, or anything else from your lover. No, on the contrary, graciously accept those wholeheartedly, and at the same time, you must become comfortable with showing such affection to yourself. Self-care is a primary component of resilience. And even though it may be difficult to change old ways, it is necessary for success, a better frame of mind, and improved physical performance. In the previous blog, I briefly mentioned mental exhaustion. So, what is mental exhaustion and how do you overcome it?Mental exhaustion and self-care
Mental exhaustion is when your thinking process is tired. You will notice that your creativity levels aren’t where they normally are. You will find that you experience difficulty paying attention, even in simple conversations, and you will not have the usual vigor and #smashyourceiling attitude. This is often followed by a ‘down’ period where a feeling of depression kicks in, you feel as if you are disappointing yourself, and you just want to curl up into a ball and not do anything at all. Let me tell you now that this is fine. It is natural. The trick here is being able to give yourself some time – not ages and ages – and with a little bit of self-care, get back on that horse. The guilt that comes from treating ourselves is conditioned into us with words like ‘self-care is a selfish activity’, or that ‘self-care is only necessary when no one loves you’. Just stop it. Other than being untrue, this type of thinking causes more damage than good. If it is okay to show your love to someone else through gifts, pampering, etc., then it is, without doubt, more than okay to show love to yourself in that same way.Self-care is even more important during high-pressure moments like community lockdowns and global pandemics.
Being resilient is more than just coping, control, and purpose. It is about respecting yourself enough to be able to fully love and appreciate who you are.
And like I always say, if you don’t change your inside, you won’t see any lasting changes on the outside.
So, pamper away!
Until next time x
