Hi everyone! Thank you for joining me on this journey to unlock, ignite and transform – and what better way to do so than through a mental performance tactic that has been whispered through the ages and is finally being made public? Before we begin, let us look at what mental performance is and why it is important. Mental performance is what you can handle internally – the speed of your thought process, the connections that you are able to make and the overall wellness of your mental state and its ability to perform at full capacity. I always state that we first must focus on the inside before we look at the outside. Previously, we have touched on two of the seven C’s of resilience, coping and control. Today, we will look at another: Competence.

No (wo)man is an island in her quest for mental performance

It is common knowledge that we cannot handle everything ourselves – or rather, whilst we can, the mundane tasks do tend to take up a lot of our time, which we would rather use towards unleashing our true potential. Can we manage a household, yes! Should we? That is to be decided amongst all who live in that house and not be the sole burden based on outdated practices that have stifled us since the beginning of time. And whilst there is pride in keeping a home, defining it as a female-led duty is undoubtedly a problem. We will look at this deeper in our blogs to come – do keep an eye out! In the same breath, today we will speak about competence and the power of delegation. Being resilient is about us not backing down, giving up, or giving in to warped societal norms. No, being resilient is about managing all that is thrown at us, taking it with a smile and then adding even more to our plates without batting an eye. The secret to getting this done, however, is through delegation. In my quest to empower women as well as my various CEO coaching sessions, an open secret I have learnt is the power of delegation. Hard work does not equate success – smart work, on the other hand, can catapult you to stardom. Being resilient is about being smart, more than it is about being capable of taking on the ‘hard’. Mental performance is based on this.

Delegation leads to increased mental performance

Competency is the ability to do something successfully. One of the biggest issues I have heard from my fellow women is the guilt they feel for putting aside tasks that society has laid upon them. Firstly, STOP IT! Do not let other people control you and your life. Secondly, it is important to identify what is the output you desire, the outcome that you seek in your career, home and life and then define the critical tasks/activities that only you can perform. The rest can be delegated but please do remember you are only delegating the task not the actual responsibility for the ultimate outcome ( especially in business).

STOP IT! It is all in your head

Any guilt that you might feel is a conditioned response part of the paradigms we talked about for so long; this guilt is a barrier to mental performance. So, I quote my book title again: Stop It! It is all in your head! Over the years, men have reached the top through such tactics and there hasn’t been any guilty feelings, any misplaced emotion, any burdens on social structure. To be competent, we must be comfortable enough to delegate where necessary without the blocks to our mental performance so that we can truly unlock, ignite, and transform. This is all part of the journey. See you soon x
