Hello! Welcome back! I hope you had a great weekend and you’re primed and ready for managing resistance to change and get ready to Smash Your Ceiling. There’s nothing like starting the week feeling refreshed and energised and ready to take the proverbial bull by the horns! What if though, you didn’t have such a great weekend? The reality is that on the surface everyone’s going about their daily lives, while underneath there’s always a lot more going on. The tip of the iceberg is just that. Under the surface, there’s a larger entity that’s rarely seen, or acknowledged. In today’s blog, we’ll look at the 5 Ways to Becoming More Resilient which you can adopt to help you conquer the day and week ahead. Remember that practice makes perfect, so it’s vital you repeat and reinforce positive practices regularly. Okay, let’s get started.

Coping Mechanisms for becoming more resilient

  1. Develop coping mechanisms that work for you:
When faced with a challenge at work or home, rather than yield to stress, develop a strategy that allows you to shift your mindset from negative to positive. We all know that even the smallest of things can be the last hair that broke the camel’s back. Remind yourself that you can manage anything you put your mind to, you just need to readjust, refocus and sometimes resize the problem.

Don't sweat the small stuff when becoming more resilient

  1. Don’t sweat the small things:
Keep your focus on the bigger picture. There are always going to be teething problems – accept and address what you can, and then regain your composure. You got this - you don’t have to worry about failure because there’s no such thing.

When you're helping others, you're becoming more resilient

  1. Help others:
By helping others see the best in themselves you’re nurturing them and yourself. Alleviating some of the pressure might just pave the way for solutions and helping others gives you a boost too!

Face your reality

  1. Be realistic:
Part of a strong foundation in being resilient is having a clear and realistic view of what the situation is. By being transparent you’re showing the world how brave you are, and that you have every belief in yourself and your abilities.

Your emotional intelligence helps you

  1. Work on improving your emotional intelligence
There’s no point in just being resilient, you want to experience effective change management as well. Our emotions give us the meanings we attach to things. Being able to flex your emotional muscles in such a way that builds you up, without tearing someone else down is key. So you see, becoming more resilient is very much available to each of us. At times, we may need it more than others. The key is to keep at it, and never give up and remember, practice makes perfect. Until next time, keep safe and happy x
