Hello everyone and welcome back, today we are going to be looking at a reflection of the year that's passed. We’re almost at the end of the year, just a few more days left to go, hang in there. After speaking about celebrations previously, I made mention of something important in that blog. I said that there will be a time for reflection, to look at the year we’ve had. So, before we get caught up in the festivities and celebrations, I believe that the time is now. No, I don’t mean that we should jump into an in-depth reflection journey just yet, but like all great journeys, even this begins by first dipping your toes into the reflection pool before diving straight in. So, what should reflection look like for you?

Reflection for you

Reflection is a process, and it cannot all occur in one day. You must take the time to consider your thoughts and feelings, read through your journal, and approach the process with an open mind. Remember that reflecting on the last year does not mean that you should only think about the negative experiences. This is where most people get it wrong. You must reflect on all the situations and occurrences that make you whole. These could be kind words from a friend, criticism by an acquaintance, or even an unpleasant encounter with a stranger. The trick is to think about the situation with an open mind and take from each occurrence that benefits you and turns you into a better person. If it is a compliment, then know that you deserve it. If it is criticism, look at the nature of the criticism, and if, and only IF it is constructive criticism, take it in your stride, learn from it, and improve yourself. However, breaking down the experiences of a whole year can seem daunting. That is why I constantly say that you should consider journaling. Thoughts and feelings should go from your head to a page. You can read about the importance of journaling here. Start your reflection by looking at the beginning of the year and allow your thoughts to move along that timeline towards your present. Are you the same person you were when 2021 began? I know that I’ve changed, and I know that in some ways, so have you. The question is whether your change was for the better, and if it wasn’t, that is fine, there is always room to improve, to change, and to grow. We will unpack this topic further towards the end of this month as soon as we get past the festivities. See you then x
