Why do people appreciate people when it's gone, someone said. Indeed, why? Today's post is a reflection one brought on by recent events. On Friday 9th April, Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh and the Queen's consort, passed away. Today is his funeral. I can see you going: "Laura, really? What has this got to do with being your Best Self?". Maybe nothing. Or maybe something. For me, Prince Philip's death brought up many memories of when my dad passed away. You see, no matter how old, and no matter if people have been ill for some time, the shock is the same, and the pain is no less. And then you think of all things unsaid, and you wonder if you'd expressed your appreciation and love enough.

"I still miss those I loved who are no longer with me but I find I am grateful for having loved them. The gratitude has finally conqeured the loss" - Rita Mae Brown.

Be grateful the people you love are there now and never, never, never stop telling them and showing them you love them in every way possible. Tomorrow might never come. Be present in every moment you are together and make the most of it—practice gratitude.

"Let us be grateful to people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our soul blossom" - Marcel Proust

Why do people appreciate things when it's gone? And my next reflection point: in the past week, I've learned so much about Prince Philip contribution to public life, his unfussy and low key but devoted service to the country and the Queen. How many of us fail to recognise the achievements of the people around us and take them for granted? Appreciate them today, recognise them, in the small things and the big things. It will make their and your life much better. And if that's not being your Best Self, I don't know what is. Have a peaceful day. See you tomorrow x Change starts from within; that's why training your consciousness should be your Priority Numero 1 - a daily practice to silence your inner critic.
