Hello everyone! As you know, today is the International Day of the Girl Child. The focus for this year is on the digital revolution and you can read more about it on the UNICEF website. Like any day that is set aside for any important topic or cause, we should take a few minutes of our time to educate ourselves and learn more about the subject. This day, however, is close to my heart. My lessons are mainly for women, and as we all started out as that girl child – that innocence – special and fleeting, formed the very foundation of who and what we are today. The beauty of this day is both a reminder and a push of action to spur us to do more for the generations to come – to ensure that they get ahead of the curve and become the women they were born to be. And, instead of being the learner as the reader, today, I urge you to be the teacher for a girl child of your choosing.

Inspire, educate, and assist a girl child

If you have children and wish to pass on the lessons that you’ve learnt, the time is now. If you don’t have any kids, you may have a niece, a godchild or a neighbour that can benefit from the wisdom you possess. In our self-resilience learnings, we touched on giving back and contributing towards building a better you, and a better society. This day provides the perfect opportunity to begin, if you haven’t already, by dedicating some life skills and some lessons, to those who need them most. Our future leaders, ceiling smashers and change-makers depend on you. That girl child depends on you. And as said in our previous posts, helping others leads directly to helping yourself. It is one of the main reasons why I do what I do. This time, the teaching task is up to you. So, ask yourself: Who will I be helping today and how will I do so? The answer might just surprise you. Until next time x
