ThePeopleAlchemist Edit: Summer in the City - Explore with me a newish neighborhood - KingCross N1C

It is week 4 of my Summer in the City, Summer Edit intimate travel blog covering the charms of Islington - welcome to KingsCross, Islington's newest neighborhood with a brand new postcode to match: N1C. KingsCross is at the converging meeting point of road, river, and rail which has shaped its rich history, evident from the many historical buildings like( to name just a few) :
  • The Goods Yard complex, designed by Lewis Cubitt and completed in 1852, comprises the Granary Building, the Train Assembly Shed, and the Eastern and Western Transit Sheds. These buildings were aligned to the axis of the Copenhagen tunnel through which the trains arrived from the north.
  • The German Gymnasium, designed by Edward Gruning, was the first purpose-built gymnasium in England in 1864-65 for the German Gymnastic Society and was influential in the development of athletics in Britain, today re-born as a Mittel-European Grand Café.
  • Gasholders No.10, 11 & 12 built for the storage of town gas for Pancras Gasworks, the largest gasworks in London. The gasholders, known as the ‘Siamese Triplet’, have now been restored and been re-erected around a series of apartment buildings - stunning!
Things have changed so much in the 10 plus years, this area is upcoming and buzzzzzzing !!!
