"Smell The Sea And Feel The Sky. Let Your Spirit Fly," wrote Van Morrison. The long Easter weekend has just gone by, Spring has arrived, and with it another May Bank Holiday weekend and then, well then it's Summer!!! :-) All this is very conducive to dreaming of holidays, sun, beach, cocktails and the unbridled sense of freedom that comes with it .... it is also very conducive to

Reminiscing of past holidays

I was looking at some snaps of past travels with my mum. I remembered that fantastic time we both had to celebrate a special birthday at the Hotel Melia Salinas on the canary island of Lanzarote. Probably one of the best times ever as it's a lovely memory of girly time spent with mum. But also for the complete experience, we both had. Especially mom as it was her birthday we were celebrating. I need to add that this is not a sponsored post, and I am writing about it because I absolutely adored it. And I am happy to shout about it.

SMELL THE SEA

You might say, " Oh well, it is only Lanzarote; how special can it be?". Yes, it was a trip to the Canaries, Europe's favourite winter sun destination, which was dictated for me by the fact that it was meant to be a total surprise. Mom only found out what we were doing the night before the flight. And where we were going only at the airport. So I couldn't apply for VISAs without giving away the surprise. Plus, the Canaries kind of guarantee sunshine and warmth within a reasonable travelling distance. Digression apart, I booked this first trip via Sovereign, and I was impressed with their service during the booking and the trip. First, ourur concierge met us at the airport in a private car for the journey. Then they were available throughout the holiday and even called to wish my mum Happy Birthday on the day. And a card was left under the door.

THE HOTEL MELIA SALINAS

The Hotel itself is an adult recommended type (phew...) designed by Fernando Higueras. A Pritzker International Architecture Prize, part of Lanzarote’s Artistic and Cultural Heritage. I booked a Junior Suite with a private terrace providing great views and elegant interior décor with marble and neutral white, beige, and green tones. The Junior Suites have access to the exclusive services of The Level with a private reception area, private pool (separate from pools available to the other guests ) close to other guests. Plus other amenities that one would expect from 5 stars hotels. Meliá Salinas is classy but unpretentious, which means one can feel utterly comfortable. It has absolutely the top spot in the reso. The location on the beach with access to the front promenade is ideal for a gentle stroll into Costa Teguise. There's not a lot to do in Costa Teguise other than sunbathing or drinking in English and Irish bars. The hotel has everything, though with plenty of activities if you are that away inclined and you could spend a week without leaving the complex.

THE EXTRA TOUCHES

What I really liked was the extra little touches. I liked the food gift and the Cava on arrival. Well, it is Spain, and it can't be champagne.
The chocolates, the Cava and a card from the Hotel Manager for my mum birthday to the greetings with Cava for breakfast and the waiters wishing mum Happy Birthday. This happened throughout her special day, and I didn't have to ask/tell besides saying is a surprise trip for her at the time of booking. All culminating with the entertainer in the evening singing to her. My mother felt like a Queen, and, thank you, Melia Salinas, I lived with the glory for at least a year ... Since then, we have had another holiday there. The quality and service were still superb. I have signed up for their Member Rewards scheme, but I have to admit I haven't used other hotels in the group yet. If all the others are as good as the Salinas, then I will want to use them again, and again, and again ... and you should too xxx
