How Do You Feel Being A Solo Traveller - Your Own Plus One? Time With Yourself Can Be The Best Time Of All ... I personally love doing what I like, when I like...

BEING A SOLO TRAVELLER

The first time I went on holiday by myself was in 2007 after I had broken up with a boyfriend and I needed a holiday. Even though my friends were free, I didn't want to have a girly time together. Instead, I wanted my time doing whatever I fancied. And so I booked a 10 days holiday in New York and attended a weekend writers' conference. My writer's aspirations were starting to bubble to the surface... I did all the classic touristy things, and I also enjoyed exploring the city and walked it all from East to West, North to South. I had read somewhere that city maps are clear giveaways and make you a vulnerable tourist, so I decided each day what I wanted to do and then studied my journey with several paths. I got soo good at looking confident at knowing where I was going that I even got other tourists/visitors to the Big Apple (American ones no less) asking me for directions. So act confident, and no one will question you ;-). The staff at the hotel was super helpful because I was alone and gave me all sorts of tips to get to know their neighbours. And I mean their own little part of NYC. I wonder if they are doing/would be doing the same if I had been a man). I remember fellow writers and aspiring writers being super impressed that I was travelling alone.

YOUR OWN PLUS ONE

On the other hand, I felt liberated. I could wake up when I wanted, eat whenever and whatever I wanted, shop till I dropped or just people watching. I felt empowered and free. Since then, I have gone away alone a minimum of once a year and more, from city breaks to beach holidays, a long weekend in London. So, yes, I do live in London, stay-a-cations. I love going away on my own, doing things on my own. Being super active or super lazy, change plans at the last minute according to my mood or inspiration or not have a plan. I like to see where the experience takes me. Get down with the locals and pursue my interests. I try to match the going away with something special I'd like to see or experience (a food festival, an exhibition and so on). Understanding the local culture, so I walk a lot. Love it. And I'm very comfortable in my own company, and I think is important to make time for me. Of course, I have holidays with friends (and a great time too), but I don't like to limit myself. What about you? Do you travel alone? If you are a female, do you think it is more difficult to? What are your best places to go to as a solo female traveller? Go on, share the love... #youcreateyourownreality #lifestyledesign #lifestyleedit #followme #like #share Business & Lifestyle Experimentation Blog for #TheWomanAlchemist #SmashYourCeiling #TravelTuesday
