ThePeopleAlchemist Edit: out and about - The Old Red Lion Theatre, Islington

The pub is one of the oldest in London, having first been built in 1415 in what was then the rural village of Islington. The Old Red Lion was rebuilt in 1899, designed by Eedle and Myers, adding two exits onto different streets which gave the pub the nickname "the In and Out", since taxi passengers could avoid paying their fare by entering it through one door and disappearing through the other. In 1979 a small studio theatre opened on the pub's first floor as the Old Red Lion Theatre Club: it quickly became a place for actors, directors, designers, writers, and technicians to experiment. The theatre now offers some of the best fringe theatres in town; with bench-style seating and with the audience very close to the actors (seats about 60 people) it has a very intimate atmosphere The pub is a traditional London pub, very close to Angel station, with very friendly staff and cheap drinks by London standards. It is nothing fancy but a good place to relax, and also see all sort of sports (whatever competition, the important game going, you can see here - it is Euro2016 galore now); if you are hungry have one of their pies, they are great, a real surprise :-p
