Finding somewhere to eat with outside space in the summer is priceless So let me help you experience London like a Londoner, with a summer editorial/intimate travel blog from a friend and introduce you to The Alwyne Castle, a charming pub in Islington with a beer garden, also #MyBestMealIslington August monthly feature. The Alwyne benefits from a very good location, only minutes walk from Highbury & Islington underground station and has lots of space, especially outside which is great for topping up the suntan and it carries a good beer and wine selection. I went there for an early Sunday lunch and, although it filled up very quickly, the service levels did not drop. I had previously read some bad reviews but actually, the experience was excellent and the staff went out of their way to accommodate my friend and me. For starters, we had beef carpaccio and seared scallops, perfectly done and seasoned. We then proceeded with the obligatory Sunday Roast (obviously ); I was impressed that they managed to handle the timing of the two orders with no problem, especially considering I like my beef still muuuing and rare and my friend almost cremated - plus I don't eat potatoes and they easily swapped for veg of my choice (the beef was delicious and, according to my friend, the beef dripping roast potatoes were perfectly cooked). Being greedy and total cheese nuts, we ended up the meal with the British Cheeseboard all washed down with a nice bottle of red. All this whilst sitting outside and watching the world go by - priceless. For me this is definitely #MyBestMealIslington - Highbury - August and a #summerguide #summeredit #mustgoto. Try it and let me know what you think; I'm sure you will love it! OPENING HOURS Sun-Wednesday: Midday - 11 pm Thurs-Fri: Midday - Midnight Saturday: 10:00 - Midnight
