"Just in Time" learning

ThePeopleAlchemist Edit: HR, business, learning & development
If we wanted to learn how to do some task outside work we wouldn't go on a course 6 or even 3 months earlier; we would Google it or use YouTube when we do need to know and action each step "there and then".In a workplace somehow we do not tend to follow this very important practice and the knowledge we acquire inexpensive courses is sometimes diluted or half-forgotten due to the time delay in putting that knowledge into practice.
With today's technology and the almost ubiquitous smartphones and tablets, we have at our disposal the almost perfect environment for pieces of e-learning (games, small bites of audio/video etc.) that staff could tap into whenever it suits or it is needed.
Even when it gets really busy, it is still possible for example to spend 10 minutes on phone or iPad to develop, broaden existing skills or get a quick refresher on "how to" for all different topics from customer service, to health & safety with the added bonus that staff can do it at their pace or when they need something specific.
Oh, and it is low cost.
