Is Networking working?

Is networking working now? In one of my previous blogs, Networking to develop your career, I wrote how networking is one way to help career development which is frequently overlooked. I strongly believe that. However, according to a survey by Ernest & Young, only 53% of people view networking as a professional skill. Go figure. So has networking developed an image issue? Or does the terminology bring about images of "all-boys" clubs? What if we changed the name to be more reflective of modern-day life? Something more inclusive and less evocative "old boys with cigars" environments, so to speak. We all know the power of social connectedness. The breadth and quality of our work relationships have a positive impact on health and wellbeing. Both physically and psychologically impact our personal outcomes and achievements and the organisation's performance. What do you think? Is networking working? If so, what shall we call it? Like, share or comment, it is good to talk ;-) A bit of shameless plug-in: upgrade your inbox and get my picks of new blogs, book news and behind the scenes hacks – monthly – delivered right into your inbox.
