ThePeopleAlchemist Edit: who you are and what you stand for is characterised by others' opinions. You are your Brand. Look after your brand.

Social Media Is An Amazing Platform That Connects You With Your Audience Globally. First, however, You Must Look After Your Brand - It Takes Time To Build A Reputation And Minutes To Ruin It.

In this day and age, we are all connected. You can reach out globally to total strangers both professionally and personally from LinkedIn to Twitter Instagram (to name just a few). And, whilst doing this, build your brand. It is important to remember that people's perception characterises who we are and what we stand for. Therefore, your brand (in and out of work) should be uniquely you, authentic and consistent. The instant accessibility of social media platforms makes it very tempting to hyperbolise and overindulge in sometimes sharing not such appropriate moments that should remain private. And even if one is very good at 'curating' content, we must remember that we are never too far from an ever-present smartphone snapping away (and this can come back to haunt in the most inappropriate career moment).
According to Malcolm Gladwell in Blink: The Power of Thinking without Thinking, people make up their minds about people they meet almost instantaneously or in two seconds: talking about The Power of First Impressions or what? First impressions do matter for both excellent and lousy depending if the first meeting was OK or not, like a halo effect. Our appearance makes a statement about who we are and what we are about. Whether you know it or not, you have been "branded" already. People have an opinion already. So instead, define your brand in line with who you want to be. Are you aware of the image you are projecting right now? Is that how you want to be perceived?
