ThePeopleAlchemist Edit: in times of doom and gloom, you can find the most significant opportunities - isn't it time we start grabbing them?
Are we Brexing or are we not? Brexit is almost here, or is it? I remember on Day 1 of the negotiations when Brexit Minister David Davis said that "London wanted a new, deep and special partnership in the interest of Britons and all Europeans. There is more that unites us than divides us." Adding that Britain was looking for a "positive and constructive tone" in the talks. "So while there will undoubtedly be challenging times ahead of us in the negotiations, we will do all that we can to ensure we deliver a deal that works in the best interests of all of our citizens," he added ( Sky News sources).
Well, the unpicking of 43 years of treaties and agreements covering thousands of different subjects has proven challenging. Not just because it had not been done before. But because the post-Brexit trade deal needs the approval of more than 30 national and regional parliaments across Europe. And also because of internal disagreements in our own Parliament. To be fair, sometimes it has been like watching children squabbling in a playground. The press has not helped with the constant prediction of doom and gloom. Always advocating the worst possible scenarios, and, in its way, alimenting divisions within the country.
Let's face it, unity and good news don't create headlines and ratings. There are issues, of course, like any time you dissolve any union. Think about divorce, and that gives you an idea. However, we need to remember that there is a big world full of possibilities and potential trade deals. It is worth noting that more millionaires were made during The Great Depression than in any other era in U.S. history. I'm not saying we are heading toward a recession but that when a door closes/when everything seems lost, another one opens/solutions appear. Like in any breakup, when you think you will never find someone else, you fall in love again.
"Always bear in mind that your resolution to success is more important than any other one thing" - Abraham Lincoln. ' I can't change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails always to reach my destination'. -Jimmy Dean And in the words of our own Winston Churchill: "A Pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an Optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty".
Last weekend marked the official birthday of Her Majesty The Queen with the glorious Trooping The Colour. A fantastic showcase that me proud to be British. And there is so much to be proud of. The Queen is such a positive example of resilience, service and adaptability with the times whilst maintaining an enormous dignity. We can all learn from her at this time. Brexit could be the most significant HR Transformation programme ever. If used effectively, it could turn on its head all old paradigms about employment, employability - who can do what. And that could be exciting. Isn't it time we start thinking in terms of possibilities? Are we brexing then or are we not?
