Hello and welcome July. How are you doing my lovely readers and reading community? I have some more books to share, again with a mix and match of fiction and nonfiction, classics and modern alike. Summer is perfect for reading ...

MY 4 BOOKS ON THE GO THIS MONTH

The average CEO reads 52 books per year – that’s one book every week. My four books on the go this month – #amreading July – are:

#AMREADING JULY – MY TAKE ON THE BOOKS

The first book is The Ickabog by J.K.Rowling, #TheWomanAlchemist for this month. The Ickabog is a fairy tale about the power of hope and friendship against all odds, presented in a visually stunning hardback edition which was illustrated by the young winners of the namesake competition. It is a magical fable, a great summer read.

SOME NONFICTION

Robert Kiyosaki’s Rich Dad Poor Dad has become the #1 Personal Finance book of all time, which was translated into dozens of languages and sold around the world. It is a non-fiction book told as a story, the story of two dads — his real father and the father of his best friend, his rich dad — and the ways in which both men shaped his thoughts about money and investing. The book was controversial at the time because it shattered some old held beliefs, such as:
  • you need to earn a high income to become rich
  • your house is an asset
  • the school system doesn't teach children about money
  • assets and a liabilities
It is a classic and one that I read and re-read often, to challenge my old money paradigms. The 10 X Rule by Grant Cardone is all about taking "Massive Action," and making the 10X Rule a discipline. Key principles in the book as described by Cardone:
  • Learn the "Estimation of Effort" calculation to ensure you exceed your targets
  • Make the Fourth Degree a way of life and defy mediocrity
  • Discover the time management myth
  • Get the exact reasons why people fail and others succeed
  • Know the exact formula to solve problems
My verdict is the book is useful for sure, and has some great gems; however, for me is a bit too salesy and American ( sorry to our cousins on the other side of the pond). For the Brits, I think you know what I mean by that ...

THESE PRECIOUS DAYS

"These Precious Days" is a collection of essays /memoir from Ann Patchett, the internationally bestselling and Women's Prize-winning author of The Dutch House. The book contemplates and explores family, friendship, marriage, failure, success, and what it all means through individual essays varying from personal recollections and experiences to unexpected influences, and little pleasures. And each one converts the singular into the universal, helping us all see our own worlds again as fresh. Compelling. Let me know if you have read any or all of these books and what you think about them. À la prochaine.
PS: A great summer read if I say so myself, is Gabrielle and her adventures, my contemporary/self-discovery romance series The Nine Lives of Gabrielle. Books in the series: OUR on 12 July - available on PRE-ORDER NOW:
