ThePeopleAlchemist Edit: book review - Act Like A Success Think Like A Success

In his #1 New York Times bestseller Act Like a Success, Think Like a Success, Steve Harvey explains how you can achieve your dreams using the gift you already have —something you do the best at with minimal effort. No one can take your gift away, you are the only one who can use it—or waste it. And this is by itself both a liberating and scary thought at the same time.
Steve shows you how that gift holds the greatest chance at success and helps you learn how to define your gift—whether that might be (problem solver? people-connector?).
He also explains that your job is not your gift; your gift can be used in your work, but it can also be used in every aspect of your life.
The book is your road map to identifying your gift, acknowledging it, perfecting it, connecting it to a vehicle, and riding it to success. There are anecdotes from his own life, practical advice, and insights on every page. Steve Harvey is an accomplished storyteller, and you can almost hear his voice ringing in your ears in his typical funny drawl (if you have never seen him in action, go on Youtube, priceless).

The book is broken down into four sections:
  1. When Enough is Enough - this section puts the spotlight on who you are right now, and you have to be honest with yourself.
  2. Discovering and Embracing your gift - Steve explains this in a very easy to understand way.
  3. Maximising your gift - this is key to the book's success; the "Tale of the Tape", a boxing analogy using Ali and Foreman's great rope, is an excellent story.
  4. Creating your Legacy - this is all about how you can make a difference.
The book holds your hand through a life improvement process.
One concept that I found particularly useful was "Taking The Lid Off The Jar" (Chapter 3): inspiring information on why it is crucial to avoid being boxed in by one's external circumstances, race, gender, economic background, age. Watch you on YouTube and then get the book.
No nonsense, funny and most certainly helpful.
