The PeopleAlchemist Edit: change & transformation, business & lifestyle experimentation for TheWomanAlchemist - behind the scenes - The Nine lives of Gabrielle: For Three She Plays
Hello there, welcome to another of
my Behind the Scene blogs.
Today, I'd like to talk about the dilemma as an author working on multiple genres, specifically alternating between fiction and non-fiction. And the latest instalment of Gabrielle's adventures (shameless self-promo)
Well, at least it is a dilemma for me.
FICTION AND NON-FICTION
Why is it a dilemma, then? The two genres required a different types of writing, input and way of creating.
NON-FICTION
Non-fiction is and needs to be very logical and planned. You are imparting some knowledge that you hope the reader will acquire by the end of the book—going from not being to do something very well and needing guidance to understand how to improve. The book needs structure and practical examples. I know there many non-fiction books focusing on theories and comparisons. Still, I like to offer practical examples that the readers can implement and improve what they are trying to improve. Tried and tested methods/exercises etc.
So I need to outline and look at practical examples - all left-brain/logical mind activities.
FICTION
Fiction, for me, is more impulsive and creative, the right side of the brain. Telling a story, not necessarily with an underlying "message". Sometimes yes, sometimes not. But, they are stories to entertain, You, the reader, and me whilst writing them.
Alternating between the two means "being" two different people/writers. You might ask why I write in both genres instead of just focusing on one. With non-fiction, I'd like to empower women and provide an instant, portable coaching/guide to help women improve their lives and careers. With fiction, I want to have fun. I like to read, and I like to write. If I can write something more profound, that's good. If not, I hope to entertain you.
THE NINE LIVES OF GABRIELLE: FOR THREE, SHE PLAYS
Last November, I published my first short novel: Gabrielle – from the diary of, the first instalment and prologue to the series The Nine Live of Gabrielle: For Three She Plays, Three She Strays and The Last Three She Stays. Yes, just like the nine lives of cats ;-).
THE NINE LIVES OF GABRIELLE – THE BEGINNING
A quick reminder
: Gabrielle is a portrait of one day in a woman’s life through her morning pages. The city of London during the lockdown in the background.
As Gabrielle writes in her morning pages, she is flooded with vivid memories of the past and intense responses to the present. She re-examines her choices throughout her life.
As she stands inside the lived moment, the “continuous present” of her life keeps intruding into her thoughts on this day in London. Self-image and everything are intertwined for your entertainment.
If you haven’t read Gabrielle yet, you can get it directly from
moi as an ebook or on Amazon, either
paperback or
ebook.
FOR THREE, SHE PLAYS
The story continues with the next instalment,
For Three, She Plays.
As she continues in her daily life, now out of lockdown and with a new man in her life, the “continuous present” of her life continues to intrude, and the recollections of her life keep on flooding, ever so vivid. Past life, past men, past fun ?
And so she plays ….
The books are available individually, just if you only want to read one story and not the rest. Or as a trilogy, perfect for relaxing with a nice Pimm or Gin & Tonic (or your beverage of choice). And yes, you can read them without drinking too...

.
Intrigued??
Available from myself and the usual suspects.
Enjoy, Laura xxx
