INTERVIEW WITH UTE AMANN-SEIDEL

1. When you were a child, what was your dream job and why? Haha…it was a job I wouldn't fancy now – air hostess! But, it was at a time when air travel still had something glamorous about it, and I loved the idea of travelling around the world for my job. I still love travelling to different countries – but more relaxing! 2. Can you tell me when you started to consider yourself successful? Working life in general:
  • Managing projects as a senior consultant in a management consultancy….happy clients, and positive feedback from directors told me I must have been doing something right.
In my current business:
  • When major bereavement support organizations and networks confirmed that Fire & Rain offers an essential and much-needed service.
3. I'm sure you have faced adversity like every business/business person: how do you motivate yourself and force yourself through the worst times? It's not always easy, but especially since the sudden death of my fiancé, I've been taking a very mindful approach to living and working. When things don't go well, I observe and question the situation and let my intuition guide me through it. 4. What are the best things about your job? Being able to use all that I've learned and experienced to help others – makes it meaningful. The Flexibility of being my boss Being able to use my creativity in every aspect of my business.

SUCCESS LEAVES CLUES

5. As Tony Robbins says, "Success leaves clues": what are your daily/weekly habits? I start every day with yoga practice – even if it's just 5 minutes when time is tight. A walk in the beautiful Scottish countryside on most days. 6. What do you think is the most significant barrier to female leadership? Wanting to please others and making ourselves smaller than we are.\

WOMEN INSPIRING WOMEN

7. What women inspire you and why? Meryl Streep because I admire her talent and authenticity My sister-in-love Susan (David and I weren't married yet when he died, so we call each other sisters-in-love) for her loving and kind approach to life. 8. What advice would you give to your 16year old self? Make "indestructible self-belief" your mantra and care less what others think. 9. Your instant mindfulness fix… A walk on my own. 10. And finally, something frivolous: the best thing about being a woman… We can wear skirts when it's hot!
