Hello everyone and welcome back! So, you’ve probably heard about New Year Resolutions, and more importantly, how they don’t seem to work why don't we rename it a promise. I firmly believe that resolutions never last, and one of the reasons for this is in the name. A resolution is a ‘firm decision to either do or not do, something. But like all decisions in life, they can be changed. You are likely to change your mind, make different decisions, choose another path. And that is where the problem lies… When it comes to your growth, your success, and your ceiling smashing, you can’t be making decisions that are fallible to mood swings. You can’t opt-in and opt-out as you feel, and you most certainly can’t leave room for indecision in your journey upwards. And that is why you should not be making resolutions, but instead, make promises.

It is a PROMISE!

A promise is a contract. It is a hard stipulation that you will do your best to honour it. And we all strive to be women of our words, but if we fail to uphold our promises, we will be labelled as untrustworthy, deceitful, etc. I believe that charity begins at home. Change starts from within. And promises made to yourself hold more weight than the promises you make to others. While we take every measure to ensure that we live up to our words with everyone else, we should apply more pressure to live up to the promise we make to ourselves. You can read more about the psychology behind promises here. So, for 2022, don’t just make resolutions for positive change. Make promises that you will try harder and do better. But please, don’t blanket your desire for change. You should make an achievable list and stick to it. I know that change isn’t easy, so in our next blog, we will look at some of the barriers of change and how to overcome them. Find out more in our next blog. See you soon x
